Perimeter College Honors Day Spring 2017

Honors Day is an opportunity to celebrate academic success and recognize those who help make it possible. Perimeter College students in 18 disciplines were eligible for student academic honors. All academic honors recipients represent a decision by faculty about the student whose academic results and progress, other activities and pursuits, and overall attitude and engagement are truly outstanding in that specific discipline.

Georgia State Students Sweep Elevator Pitch Competition

Georgia State students flexed their entrepreneurial muscles taking first, second, third and honorable mentions at a recent pitch competition hosted at Clayton State University. Kenneth Wright, led the way pitching his product KleanCollar, an innovative fashion accessory designed to keep your collared shirts from getting the dreaded dirt ring. Wright's pitch earned him a first place finish. Psychology Major and Entrepreneurship Minor Robert Hatcher took home second place pitching SoundCollide, a platform that allows musicians to collaborate together live and remotely. Hospitality graduate student Chris Walker placed third with a pitch for an original idea. ENI student, Nephthaly Leonidas rounded out the pack by earning honorable mentions for a pitch of the platform Social Square.

Dylan Ruediger a Provost Dissertation Fellow earned his doctorate in Native American and early American History at Georgia State University in Spring 2017. He has accepted a position with the American Historical Association (AHA) as the coordinator for the Career Diversity for Historians initiative. The American Historical Association (AHA) was founded in 1884 to establish high professional standards for historical training and research. Today, the American Historical Association is the largest professional organization serving historians in all fields and all professions. The AHA has become a trusted voice for history education, the professional work of historians, and the critical role of historical thinking in public life.

Dylan Ruediger, a doctoral student and Provost Dissertation Fellow at the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University, successfully Defends Ph.D. Dissertation this spring on Tributary Subjects: Affective Colonialism, Power, and The Process of Subjugation in Colonial Virginia, C. 1600 - C. 1740. His dissertation explores tributary relationships between Algonquin, Siouan, and Iroquoian Indians and English settlers in Virginia, placing the process of political subjection into the heart of narratives of dispossession.

Boren Fellowship

David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are sponsored by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), a major federal initiative designed to build a broader and more qualified pool of U.S. citizens with foreign language and international skills. Boren Awards provide U.S. undergraduate and graduate students with resources and encouragement to acquire language skills and experience in countries critical to the future security and stability of our nation. In exchange for funding, Boren Award recipients agree to work in the federal government for a period of at least one year.

National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Award

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. The reputation of the GRFP follows recipients and often helps them become life-long leaders that contribute significantly to both scientific innovation and teaching. Past fellows include numerous Nobel Prize winners, U.S. Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu, Google founder, Sergey Brin, and Freakonomics co-author, Steven Levitt.
