IDEAL at Georgia State is an inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual disabilities to audit classes in arts and related media departments while learning adult life skills at the university's Downtown Atlanta campus.

Students who earn the Global Scholar Distinction are recognized by Georgia State University for their development of global competence: the skills, knowledge and awareness that enhance the ability to succeed in a global environment. The Global Scholar Distinction is open to all Bachelor degree-seeking majors in all colleges, in addition to Associate degree-seeking students at Perimeter College.

Niki Nourollahi (J.D. '23) has been named the Georgia State University "Study Abroad Student of the Year." Nourollahi is a recent graduate of Georgia State University's College of Law Class of 2023. During her second year of law school, Niki spent her spring semester studying international law at Aarhus University. Niki also previously studied abroad during her undergraduate education at Georgia State University's Robinson College of Business with Toulouse Business School in Toulouse, France for six months. Upon returning to Georgia State Law from Denmark, Niki has maintained relationships with her friends abroad and assisted new international exchange students in Atlanta as they arrived. She is passionate about her study-abroad experience and loves to share with others how the experience has enriched her life. Niki has recently accepted an associate position with Burr & Forman LLP in Atlanta as part of their corporate and tax practice group, with a concentration in securities transactional work. Georgia State University student Bill Shillito recently received the Best Graduate Teaching Assistant Award from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics. The Best Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is given to students for outstanding leadership, service, and instruction as a teaching assistant.

Georgia State University student Jiamin Pan recently received the Best Graduate Teaching Assistant Award from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics. The Best Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is given to students for outstanding leadership, service, and instruction as a teaching assistant.

Georgia State University student Will Fraker recently received Sandra L. Dwyer Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Department of Philosophy. The Sandra L. Dwyer Fund supports excellence in student teaching for graduate students in the department, as judged by faculty, teaching reviews, student evaluations, student performance and innovative course design.

Georgia State University student Gift Nnakwu recently received the Drs. Kennedy and Nettey Premedical Award. This award was established to alleviate financial barriers for students at Georgia State University applying to medical school programs by assisting with funding for MCAT test preparation materials.

The Professional Merit Award is presented to the student or students who has/have most actively participated in professional activities within the community and who demonstrates high standards of professionalism.

In memory of Dr. Virgil Jacobs, former anatomist in the physical therapy program, this award is given to the student who best exemplifies the qualities of intelligence, compassion, fairness, honesty, and sincerity in addition to outstanding scholarly anatomical competence.

This award is given to an outstanding nutrition student in recognition of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and potential future as a dietetics professional.

This award is given to a graduating senior who demonstrates a commitment to research, evidence of critical thinking skills, and a strong potential in nutrition research.

The Georgia State University Law Review Board selected eight 2L student notes for publication in the Georgia State University Law Review journal. As members of the Georgia State University Law Review, these students are recognized for their superior academic skills and dedication to legal scholarship.

Cortes, of Chicago, is a neuroscience Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences. Georgia State University's graduate student Janita Poe presented her Virtual International Exchange as an Antidote to U.S. Racial Hypersegregation: One Graduate Student's Vision for Early-Career Research on the Topic at the International Virtual Exchange Conference in September. Poe, of Atlanta, is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Communication in the College of Arts & Sciences. Hosted by Newcastle University, the conference provides the opportunity to expand student learning transnationally and for presenters to reach a broader audience. Poe's presentation focused on how virtual education benefits the racially divided by providing a means of connecting with others to integrate learning. Georgia State University student Stephanie Baumann has earned the Walter F. Daves Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award for her instruction the Department of Psychology. Baumann, of Fredricksburg, VA, is a Ph.D. candidate in the Psychology Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. The Walter F. Daves Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award is annually awarded to a psychology graduate student who displays outstanding instruction in the department. Georgia State University student Riuki Gakio has been awarded an Emmy for his environmental documentary titled "Our Plastic World," which focused on the destructive impact of plastic pollution on the environment. Gakio, of Atlanta, is a Film and Media major at Georgia State University. "Our Plastic World" won the 2020 Southeast Emmy in the category of Best Documentary - Health/Science - Program Feature/Segment. The documentary had previously received two silver and three bronze awards in the 41st annual International Telly Awards. Gakio, who wrote and produced the documentary, worked alongside executive producer, professor and managing director of GSUTV Bob Judson, co-writers Anh Tu Dao and Bill Chapman, associate producers Christopher Kurian and Kofi Stiles, editor Ben Whisenhunt, narrator Brenda Bush and Georgia Public Broadcasting to complete the film. As Georgia State's media station, GSUTV provides students with training for creating broadcast content and airs special programs throughout Georgia and to a national network of PBS stations via cable, satellite, and digital platforms.

Georgia State University student Christopher Porzenheim presented a paper on the topic of "Emerson and Resistance" at an American Library Association (ALA) conference recently. Porzenheim, of Clarkston, is a student in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. The panel was sponsored by the Ralph Waldo Emerson Society, where Porzenheim's paper argued that Emerson was a virtue ethicist. Georgia State University student Maximiliana Rifkin has been invited to present at the annual Positive Psychology conference in New York City in Spring 2021. Rifkin, of Fairport, NY, is a student in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. Rifkin plans to give a talk on how to use our emotions more effectively as guides in action.
