Georgia State University student Michelle Fox has received the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award in psychology. Fox, of Deerfield, IL, is a psychology Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences. The College of Arts & Sciences provides a skills-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

This award is made annually to a graduate student who has shown outstanding development and ability in the use of statistics in psychology. It is named for Percival Rogers Bakeman (1882-1932), a graduate of Brown University, who was regarded as something of a polymath. He was a professor at Shanghai College, where he distinguished himself as the only American to lecture routinely in Chinese. The College of Arts & Sciences provides a skills-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

The John Warkentin Memorial Award is made annually to a graduate student showing outstanding potential in psychotherapy as well as financial need. John Warkentin was a psychiatrist in Atlanta who died in 1983. He and his wife, who was a clinical psychologist, were strong supporters of the psychotherapy program in the 1970s.

Georgia State University student Leigh Holbrook has received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award from the Department of Religious Studies.

Georgia State University student Melvin Douglas has received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Department of Religious Studies in recognition of academic achievement.

The Fulbright fellowship gives students an opportunity to immerse themselves in a host country's customs and culture while they conduct individually designed research projects or serve as English teaching assistants. Fellows in this competitive program receive grants that allow them to participate in a cultural exchange through interactions based in the classroom, home and community.

The Dr. Colquitt L. "Buck" Chandler Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established by the CLC Foundation in memory of Dr. Chandler, a successful Atlanta dentist, real estate investor, and philanthropist. The scholarship is awarded to Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Real Estate selected by a committee that includes the department chair.

College of Education & Human Development doctoral student Quintin Bostic is one of two students across the country chosen for the National Association of Professional Development Schools (NAPDS) Emerging Professional Development Schools (PDS) Leaders Award.

First, second, third place and honorable mention are selected by a panel of judges from disciplines across the university.

The Alpha Eta National Honor Society promotes and recognizes significant scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the allied health professions. Baccalaureate degree candidates who have maintained an overall GPA of 3.5 or better are eligible for induction. The Alpha Eta motto is "Together We Serve" to represent all of the allied health professions. Georgia State University became a founding member of Alpha Eta in March 1975.

L. Danie Marshall received the Asa G. Hilliard, III Memorial Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III was a world-renowned Pan-Africanist educator, historian and psychologist whose work impacted people around the globe. This scholarship is given in recognition of leadership, engagement in urban education settings that has improved and demonstrates promise to continue improving the educational context and/or student development and learning in these settings.

The Sara M. Hunt Clinical Excellence Award is given to a Coordinated Program student who has displayed outstanding performance in the clinical setting.

Ebony Palmer-Floyd received the Kay Chester Scholarship for Teachers in Training from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Established by Kay Chester, this scholarship supports a student pursuing a degree in teacher preparation who has the challenge of raising a family while furthering her education.

Georgia State University student Qariah Muhammad has been awarded The Lee Project Endowed Scholarship. Allison Webb created the Lee Project Scholarship in memory of Lee Lowery III, who was a sophomore at Georgia State University and graduated from Grady High School, where he was a scholar athlete. This scholarship is given to a high-achieving student who has overcome adversity to succeed academically.

Amani Ashley received the David Jemel Holloman Memorial Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Darryl Holloman, a three-time Georgia State University alumnus and former dean of students at the university, established this scholarship in memory of his younger brother, David Jemel Holloman. This memorial scholarship is awarded to an exceptional undergraduate student in the CEHD majoring in early childhood and elementary education.

Ebonie Hughes received the Robert L. Blaney and Joe C. White Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. This scholarship is presented to a master's candidate in the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education's urban accelerated certification and master's program who exhibits the potential for excellence in teaching, communicates well with others, translates theory into practice and has a sense of humor, characteristics which Blaney and White valued so highly.

Georgia State University student Ashley Forgey has received the Religious Studies Endowed Scholarship. This endowed award was created by Religious Studies alumni to recognize outstanding scholarship and academic potential in an undergraduate major.

Kathryn Clements received the Educational Leadership Award from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. This award, established by Gloria Kittel, provides support to a student pursuing an M.Ed. in educational leadership.

Taylor Buis and Bryant Hedgeman received the Mary Helen Huggins Memorial Scholarship in Sport Administration from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Named for Mary Helen Huggins, the former Marketing Services Director for the Atlanta Braves and faculty member in the CEHD's Department of Kinesiology and Health, this award is presented to active graduate students in sport administration.

Ethan Tinh Trinh received the Joanne R. Nurss Endowed Scholarship in Life-Long Literacy from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Joanne R. Nurss spent most of her career at Georgia State educating teachers and working in programs for young children, adult literacy and English language learners. She was directly responsible for the early establishment and success of the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education. This scholarship supports a graduate-level student who has a focus in life-long literacy.

Natalie Navarro received the Jeff and Debbie Rupp Endowed Scholarship in Exercise Science from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Established by Jeff Rupp, associate professor in the CEHD's Department of Kinesiology and Health from 1985-2011, and Debbie Rupp, associate director of recreational programs from 1987-2010, this award is presented to a student in the Department of Kinesiology and Health's exercise science program.

Andrew Corbett received the Roslyn Hirsch Balbirer Memorial Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development (CEHD) as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. This award is named for Roslyn Hirsch Balbirer, who was a passionate consumer of the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta and a dedicated advocate of the value and benefits of sport participation for people with a disability. It's given to a graduate student enrolled in the CEHD's Department of Kinesiology and Health who has a commitment to advancing opportunities in physical activity, sport for individuals with a disability, and who demonstrates the potential to advance the field of adapted physical activity or sport administration.

Asim L. Narcisse-Williams received the Dr. Cynthia Kuhlman and Dr. Wayne Sengstock Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. This award is named for Cynthia Kuhlman, CEHD alumnus and Advancement Council member, and Wayne Sengstock, a former special education professor at Georgia State who specialized in intellectual disabilities. It's presented to an exceptional student majoring in special education in the Department of Learning Sciences.

Karla Bradford received the Nicholas R. Castricone Memorial Scholarship from Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development as part of its annual Scholars Celebration. Nicholas Castricone was a professor of intellectual disabilities in the former Department of Educational Psychology, Special Education and Communication Disorders. This scholarship is given to an undergraduate or graduate student studying intellectual disabilities.

Georgia State University student Karan Saluja has received the Kevin M. Brady Endowed Scholarship Fund in Biology. The Kevin M. Brady Endowed Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health concentration program. To be considered for the award, students must be in good academic standing, be a top performing student and have a demonstrated financial need.

Georgia State University student Xiaonan Deng has earned the Ambrose H. Pendergrast Fellowship in Chemistry. The Pendergrast Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding doctoral student in medicinal chemistry or biochemistry in honor of former Georgia State chemistry professor Ambrose Pendergrast.

Georgia State University student Chakravarthy Garlapati has been awarded the Cellular & Molecular Biology & Physiology Award for excellent work in the field. Garlapati works in the Department of Biology at Georgia State and is involved in molecular biology, cell biology and cancer research. Garlapati is also working on a research project titled "Discovery of Molecular Signature Responsible for TNBC Racial Disparity in AA vs EA."
