2021 Honors Recital and Dean's Award

The School of Music annually hosts this prestigious competition where students compete for awards and prizes, the Honors Recital and Dean's Award. The Honors Recital and Dean's Award winner on March 7, was Sue Shin. Dr. Wade Weast, Dean of the College of the Arts, and Dr. Nickitas Demos, Director of the School of Music, were at hand to present Ms. Shin with the well-deserved award. Ms. Shin is from the piano studio of Raffi Besalyan. The Honors Recital and Dean's Award showcases the School of Music's most accomplished soloists selected by audition before an outside jury. Through a highly selective audition process, the recital's participants are determined.

Baker Family Distinguished Student Award

Established in 2015 by alumnus Ed Baker, this scholarship provides support to an undergraduate or graduate student in the Robinson College whose academic achievement, initiative, persistence, character and integrity indicate outstanding potential for future success.

During the course of a year, approximately one-third of the College's Ph.D. students teach one or more course sections as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs). These awards are given to recognize those GTAs with outstanding teaching records and performance in the classroom during the preceding calendar year.

The R. J. Knobel Scholarship was established upon Dr. Roland "Knob" Knobel's retirement in 1985, after teaching in the institute since 1970. This award is given to MHA students based on academic performance, and to recognize those who have achieved distinction through professional and community activities.

Awarded to two outstanding doctoral students in the School of Accountancy. Dr. Catherine Miles served as Chairman of the Accounting Department at GSU from 1955 to 1976 and was one of the founders of the GSU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the accountancy honor society.

The two-year, predoctoral fellowship from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA) is given for research training and dissertation work. The fellowship is part of the USDA's Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Education and Workforce Development program, producing future research leaders in food and agricultural sciences.

To be eligible for the President's List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 4.0 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.

Georgia State University Student Receives Recognition For Outstanding Work

Georgia State University student Sumit Kumar has received the Best Graduate Lab Assistant (GLA) Award in Mathematics. Kumar, of Raxaul, India, is a Mathematics master's degree student in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Graduate Lab Assistantship is one of several graduate assistantships for M.S. and Ph.D. students offered by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The Best Graduate Lab Assistant Award recognizes students for their excellent performance as an assistant.
