Georgia State Student Hodari James Helps Teach Young Students About Astronomy
Georgia State University student Hodari James recently visited and volunteered at Carver Road Middle School. James, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a Ph.D. student in Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences. James presented on careers in astronomy and led an astrobiology activity for four groups of 30 students, with about 140 attendees. He enjoyed the experience, and said because "Carver serves predominantly Black, Brown, and low-income students, it is crucial to expose them to STEM careers at an early age." Georgia State University Student Caleb Spainhour Interns at Georgia Capitol
Georgia State University student Caleb Spainhour worked recently as an intern at the Georgia General Assembly through the university's Georgia Legislative Intern Program (GLIP). Spainhour, of Nicholasville, Ky., is a third year Law and Society Interdisciplinary Studies student in the College of Arts and Sciences. Caleb hopes to attend law school in the future, and believes that his GLIP placement will help him gain relevant experience in his career path. As an intern, Spainhour's responsibilities included researching proposed policies and legislation in neighboring states, compiling reports on bills, and keeping an eye out for concerns of other members. Spainhour said he was excited by "the networking opportunities that are found nowhere else in Georgia." Each year, the Georiga State University College of Law Moot Court Competition Team competes in several of the most challenging and prestigious moot court competitions throughout the country to hone their appellate advocacy skills.
