Georgia State University student Hodari James recently visited and volunteered at Carver Road Middle School. James, of Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a Ph.D. student in Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences. James presented on careers in astronomy and led an astrobiology activity for four groups of 30 students, with about 140 attendees. He enjoyed the experience, and said because "Carver serves predominantly Black, Brown, and low-income students, it is crucial to expose them to STEM careers at an early age." Georgia State University student Morgan Paskins recently presented research at the Georgia Academy of Science Conference. Paskins, of Bremen, Ohio, is a Master's student in Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Georgia Academy of Science Annual Conference, held recently at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and is dedicated to the promotion of science education and the fostering of scientific research in the state of Georgia. Her presentation was titled "Sexual Dimorphism of the Second Cervical Vertebra in Humans." Paskins prepared the presentation with the help of Frank L. Williams, Professor of Anthropology. Georgia State University student Victoria Hogans recently presented research at the Georgia Academy of Science Conference. Hogans, of Conyers, Ga., is a Master's student in Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Georgia Academy of Science Annual Conference, held recently at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and is dedicated to the promotion of science education and the fostering of scientific research in the state of Georgia. Her presentation was titled, "Carabelli's Trait Expression In Agile Mangabeys (Cercocebus Agilis), Angolan Colobus Monkeys (Colobus Angolensis) and Olive Baboons (Papio Anubis): The Role of Size and Phylogeny." Hogans prepared the presentation with the help of Frank L. Williams, Professor of Anthropology. The Nursing Student Leadership Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated initiative, motivation, dedication, and strong commitment to a Georgia State nursing student program or organization. This award is given to a student who demonstrates leadership abilities both within and outside of Georgia State University.

Georgia State University student Caleb Spainhour worked recently as an intern at the Georgia General Assembly through the university's Georgia Legislative Intern Program (GLIP). Spainhour, of Nicholasville, Ky., is a third year Law and Society Interdisciplinary Studies student in the College of Arts and Sciences. Caleb hopes to attend law school in the future, and believes that his GLIP placement will help him gain relevant experience in his career path. As an intern, Spainhour's responsibilities included researching proposed policies and legislation in neighboring states, compiling reports on bills, and keeping an eye out for concerns of other members. Spainhour said he was excited by "the networking opportunities that are found nowhere else in Georgia." Georgia State University student Armand Babakhanian recently published research on libertarian philosophy in an academic journal. Babakhanian, of Granada Hills, Calif., is a Master's student in Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences. His article was titled "Thomist Libertarianism is Committed to Mysterianism." His work was published in the most recent issue of the academic journal New Blackfriars. Georgia State University student Charles Lawal recently presented research about tributaries of the Chattahoochee River at a conference. Lawal, of Bariga, Nigeria, is a Master's student in Geosciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. His research was conducted with the help of Associate Professor Luke Pangle. Lawal presented his initial research at the Georgia Water Resources Conference held recently in Athens. Georgia State University student Yali Feng recently published a chapter in the book "Crossing Boundaries in Researching, Understanding, and Improving Language Education." Feng, of Shijiazhuang, China, is a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics & ESL in the College of Arts and Sciences. His chapter was titled "Non-Expert Raters' Scoring Behavior and Cognition in Assessing Pragmatic Production in L2 Chinese." Li wrote the chapter with the help of fellow Applied Linguistics student Xian Jan Li. Georgia State University student Yoon Namkung recently received a travel grant to present research at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL). Namkung, of Seoul, South Korea, is a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics & ESL at the College of Arts and Sciences. Yoon will be presenting with Professor Ute Roemer on their work titled "L2 learners' use of phrase-frames across proficiency levels: Comparing written and oral production." Her travel grant is from Comite International Permanent des Linguistes/Permanent International Committee of Linguists. The AAAL 2023 Conference is a research conference known for its comprehensive linguistic research. Cox wrote the chapter with the help of Adjunct Professor Eric Friginal and fellow Applied Linguistics student Ashleigh Cox. Each year, the Georiga State University College of Law Moot Court Competition Team competes in several of the most challenging and prestigious moot court competitions throughout the country to hone their appellate advocacy skills. The student organization of award-winning advocates consists of approximately 50 second-year and third-year members among the College's 650 full-time and part-time students, who are guided by the Moot Court Board.
