Georgia State University student Amany Elsharkawy recently received the Timothy Jon Bartness Memorial Award. The scholarship was established in memory of Timothy Jon Bartness (1953-2015), who joined the Biology department faculty in 1988. He was internationally celebrated for his research on obesity and metabolic physiology in addition to mentoring young scientists.

This scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduate students who excel in academic achievement based on grade-point average, intellectual inquisitiveness, and research activities and who show leadership and good citizenship at Georgia State and in other communities. This fund was created in memory of former Associate Professor of Biology William G. Nolan.
