2018 Georgia Esports League (GEL) State Championships

The Georgia State University Esports Varsity Smite team defeated teams from Kennesaw State University, the Savannah College of Art and Design, and the University of Georgia to win state championships in Smite and Paladins at the 2018 Georgia Esports League (GEL) Championships in May.

Georgia State Honors College Student Meklit Gebru Awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to Study Abroad

Meklit Gebru, a junior studying international economics and Spanish at Georgia State University, is one of over 1,201 American undergraduate students from 363 colleges and universities across the U.S. selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to study or intern abroad during the Summer 2018 application cycle. Gebru will participate in a summer study abroad on Spanish studies in Costa Rica.

Nell Hamilton Trotter Award

The Nell Hamilton Trotter Student Leadership Award recognizes an outstanding commitment to student involvement and is the highest student leadership award presented by the university. For nearly 40 years, Nell Hamilton Trotter was a loyal member of the Georgia State University community. She was the first dean of women at Georgia State and served for many years as a dedicated faculty member. Dean Hamilton Trotter personified the ideal qualities students, particularly student leaders, are expected to emulate.
