Georgia State University philosophy Student Jackson Barringer was selected as the 2018 winner of the George W. Beiswanger Award. This award is given to an undergraduate major on the basis of overall academic excellence in philosophy based on program GPA, overall GPA, undergraduate research projects, B.A. thesis work, and participation in academically-oriented departmental activities.

Georgia State Masters Student Paul Fryfogle successfully defended his Philosophy MA thesis, "The Fragility of Convergence: Public Reason, Political Liberalism and Stability" Paul's committee members were Dr. Christie Hartley, Dr. Andrew Jason Cohen, and Dr. Bill Edmundson.

The U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies (CES) awarded Kalee E. Burns a CES Dissertation Mentorship for her research on "Social Capital and Entrepreneurship," which uses microdata from the Atlanta Research Data Center (RDC). Burns is a PH.D. candidate in the Department of Economics at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies.

Edwin Mathies Jr., received the International Graduate Student of the Year award at Georgia State University's 2018 International Education Awards. Mathies, who is from Monrovia, Liberia, enrolled as a student in the Department of Public Policy and Management at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies after completing the school's six-week Public Management Institute for the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

Forty-two members of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2021 at Georgia State University received their white coats at the annual White Coat Ceremony and Service of Remembrance on September 6.
