Chanwoo Park Receives International Student Award
Georgia State University student Chanwoo Park recently received the International Undergraduate Student of the Year Award from the university. Park, from South Korea, is a bachelor's student in Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences. The International Undergraduate Student of the Year Award aims to honor and recognize outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and contributions to the international community by a Georgia State University international student at the undergraduate level. Park has assisted with International Student Orientation, leading the various events and helping new international students with their questions about Georgia State. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa's Alpha Zeta Mu Chapter and served as an International Peer Assistant Student Leader for the International Student and Scholar Services Department at Perimeter College, where he earned an Associate's degree in Computer Science in the Summer of 2022. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Rejuvenation of Dying Lake
As a part of its efforts to ensure environmental sustainability, Surya Sekhar Pal led a team of the Biocon Foundation which has brought back to life the dying 35-acre Hebbagodi Lake in the Indian state of Karnataka, leading to a significant improvement in the water quality and the return of flora and fauna. The plantlets were planted and trees were painted with bi-color straps of orange and yellow in order to prevent cracking and splitting of barks and prevent growing of diseases, fungus and insects. It bought restoration of the Lake and also rejuvenation of the aquatic ecosystem.

The International Association for Task-Based Language Teaching (IATBLT) is an organization that focuses on frameworks for teaching second languages. The conference, held in August, brought together scholars and educators from around the world and invited them to discuss established and innovative approaches. Research Accepted for National Undergraduate Research Conference
Georgia State University student Razat Sutradhar recently had his research accepted for the 8th National Workshop for Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Networking and Systems in Denver, Colorado. Sutradhar, of Tucker, is an undergraduate Computer Science student in the College of Arts and Sciences. Razat has been working with Ashwin Ashok, a Georgia State Associate Professor of Computer Science, on this research for more than a year and is the first author on the paper. The National Workshop for REU Research in Networking and Systems took place on October 22. Georgia State University student Jina Yu recently received an academic award for her poster presentation for Georgia State's Scientific Computing Day. Yu, of Jonesboro, is a Ph.D. student in Chemistry in Professor Ivaylo Ivanov's lab in the College of Arts and Sciences. Yu's poster was titled "Dynamic conformational switching underlies TFIIH function in transcription and DNA repair and impacts genetic diseases." Georgia State's Scientific Computing Day is a symposium fostering networking and collaborations among researchers at the university and its affiliates.
