Georgia State University student Alfred Boakye recently received a travel scholarship to attend the Gerontological Society of America Meetings and the preconference workshop, "Pathways to Equity-Based Aging Research and Practice." The travel scholarship was awarded by the organization Black in Gerontology and Geriatrics (BIGG) in collaboration with the American Federation for Aging Research. The pre-conference workshop will convene advanced students and early career researchers, practitioners, and advocates interested in addressing the harm that can be perpetuated through faulty research methods and practices.

Georgia State University student Hodari-Sadiki Hubbard-James was recently named a Graduate Student Medal Winner at the 240th Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Awards poster competition. The Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Student Awards are given to recognize exemplary research by undergraduate and graduate students who present at one of the poster sessions at the meetings of the American Astronomical Society. The 240th meeting was held in June in Pasadena, California.

Georgia State University student Ashleigh Cox recently published a book chapter in "Handbook of Practical Second Language Teaching and Learning." Her book chapter is titled "Corpus Uses in Language Teaching." This chapter was written with the assistance of Adjunct Professor Eric Friginal.

Georgia State University student Meghan Goyer recently received the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Scholar Award for academic achievement with potential for having a positive impact on society. The $20,000 award is a competitive, one-time, merit-based award designed to recognize and encourage academic excellence and achievement by women in doctoral-level programs.

The Applied Geography Conference, held every fall, is an opportunity for practitioners, academics, and students to share research and application ideas. The conference was held virtually in October.

Georgia State University student Chanwoo Park recently received the International Undergraduate Student of the Year Award from the university. Park, from South Korea, is a bachelor's student in Computer Science in the College of Arts and Sciences. The International Undergraduate Student of the Year Award aims to honor and recognize outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and contributions to the international community by a Georgia State University international student at the undergraduate level. Park has assisted with International Student Orientation, leading the various events and helping new international students with their questions about Georgia State. He is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa's Alpha Zeta Mu Chapter and served as an International Peer Assistant Student Leader for the International Student and Scholar Services Department at Perimeter College, where he earned an Associate's degree in Computer Science in the Summer of 2022. As a part of its efforts to ensure environmental sustainability, Surya Sekhar Pal led a team of the Biocon Foundation which has brought back to life the dying 35-acre Hebbagodi Lake in the Indian state of Karnataka, leading to a significant improvement in the water quality and the return of flora and fauna. The plantlets were planted and trees were painted with bi-color straps of orange and yellow in order to prevent cracking and splitting of barks and prevent growing of diseases, fungus and insects. It bought restoration of the Lake and also rejuvenation of the aquatic ecosystem.

D'Arienzo, of Atlanta, is a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics & ESL student in the College of Arts and Sciences. The International Association for Task-Based Language Teaching (IATBLT) is an organization that focuses on frameworks for teaching second languages. The conference, held in August, brought together scholars and educators from around the world and invited them to discuss established and innovative approaches. The article introduces a new corpus that Tian and Scott Crossley, a Georgia State professor of Applied Linguistics & ESL, have compiled. Georgia State University student Meredith D'Arienzo published research for a chapter of an academic book, "Language Teachers Studying Abroad." D'Arienzo, of Atlanta, is a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics & ESL in the College of Arts and Sciences. The chapter is called "The Impact of a Two-Week Study-Abroad Teacher Development Program on Pre-Service L2 Teachers" and was written with the help of YouJin Kim, a Georgia State professor of Applied Linguistics & ESL. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State University student Yifan Wang presented his paper "Old Wine in New Bottle? A Marxist Critique of the Trend of Sustainable Brands," at The North American Society for Social Philosophy 39th International Social Philosophy Conference. Wang, of Yancheng, China, is a Master's Philosophy student in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Conference was held in Philadelphia last summer. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State University student Xian Jan Li recently received an Assessment Research Award from the British Council. Li, of Changsha, China, is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Linguistics & ESL student within the College of Arts and Sciences. The British Council awarded Li to support her dissertation research. Georgia State University student Razat Sutradhar recently had his research accepted for the 8th National Workshop for Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Networking and Systems in Denver, Colorado. Sutradhar, of Tucker, is an undergraduate Computer Science student in the College of Arts and Sciences. Razat has been working with Ashwin Ashok, a Georgia State Associate Professor of Computer Science, on this research for more than a year and is the first author on the paper. The National Workshop for REU Research in Networking and Systems took place on October 22. Georgia State University student Nick Bergen presented his paper "Post-Heideggerian approaches to the Critique of Violence" at the 14th International Critical Theory Conference of Rome. Bergen, of Atlanta, is a Master's Philosophy student in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Conference was held at the John Felice Rome Center of Loyola University Chicago in May. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

The Rosalind Society/Mary Ann Liebert award from the journal Brain Connectivity is given for the best paper by a woman or underrepresented minority in this journal.
