Georgia State Law Students Inducted Into Elite Legal Societies
Georgia State University College of Law inducted 30 new student honorees and two honorary alumni into the Order of the Coif and the Order of Barristers on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2024. These esteemed societies celebrate excellent scholarship and advocate for law students nationwide.

2024-25 Weltner Family Law Inn of Court Pupil
Five Georgia State University College of Law students were selected as 2024-2025 Weltner Family Law Inn of Court pupils. The Weltner Family Inn is a chapter of the American Inns of Court; an organization that seeks to increase civility and professionalism among bench and bar members through social interaction and legal education. The chosen students will have opportunities to network and receive mentorship from lawyers and judges.

2024 Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellows
Three Georgia State University College of Law students were named 2024 Justice John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellows. Jiovanny Dominguez (J.D. '25), Aaliyah Knight (J.D. '26) and Aimee Lyons (J.D. '25) are all members of the 2024 Stevens Fellows cohort, consisting of 157 law students nationwide who work in public interest law.

Global Scholar Distinction (Summer 2024)
Students who earn the Global Scholar Distinction are recognized by Georgia State University for their development of global competence: the skills, knowledge and awareness that enhance the ability to succeed in a global environment. The Global Scholar Distinction is open to all Bachelor degree-seeking majors in all colleges, in addition to Associate degree-seeking students at Perimeter College.

IDEAL at GSU Student working with MARTA for internship this Summer
Hassan Davis is working this summer with 23 East Communications Group and MARTA to support their social media, communications, and outreach initiatives while putting his production and post-production skills to work. Hassan completed the 2-year Inclusive Digital Expression and Literacy (IDEAL) Program in Spring 2024 and will continue to take classes at Georgia Statenext year. Hassan is a skilled video editor, a lover of trains, and a natural on camera.

Student Trial Lawyers Association
Georgia State University College of Law extends its congratulations to the newest mock trial team of the Student Trial Lawyers Association for the 2023-2024 academic year. This signifies STLA's commitment to providing students with real courtroom experience, facilitated by professional attorneys and participation in national competitions, bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical legal skills. Notably, many graduates who have been part of STLA go on to successful careers as litigators and district attorneys. In 2020, Georgia State University achieved a remarkable 21st ranking in the U.S. News & World Report for its outstanding Trial Advocacy Programs. This recognition is well-deserved, as the Student Trial Lawyers Association has a proven track record of excellence, boasting an impressive record of 16 national championships, 15 regional championships, and seven second-place finishes in national competitions.

Georgia State Student James Stamps Receives Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship
Georgia State University student James Stamps recently received the Eleanor McEdwards International Opportunity Scholarship. The Eleanor McEdwards International Opportunity Scholarship is a study abroad scholarship awarded annually to an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in the College of Arts and Sciences. The scholarship was established by Colleen McEdwards and Scott Burnside in honor of her mother, Eleanor McEdwards, who was dedicated to creating and promoting opportunities for international travel and study among young people.

2021 Honors Recital and Dean's Award
The School of Music annually hosts this prestigious competition where students compete for awards and prizes, the Honors Recital and Dean's Award. The Honors Recital and Dean's Award winner on March 7, was Sue Shin. Dr. Wade Weast, Dean of the College of the Arts, and Dr. Nickitas Demos, Director of the School of Music, were at hand to present Ms. Shin with the well-deserved award. Ms. Shin is from the piano studio of Raffi Besalyan. The Honors Recital and Dean's Award showcases the School of Music's most accomplished soloists selected by audition before an outside jury. Through a highly selective audition process, the recital's participants are determined.

Georgia State University ROTC Cadet Receives Military Commission
Georgia State University student Marques Powell received his commission in the Transportation Corp of the U.S. Army Reserve on December 18, following a 45-day evaluation course at Fort Knox, KY. Powell, of Conyers, GA, is an ROTC cadet majoring in speech. His commission as 2nd Lieutenant was celebrated by the Department Chair of Military Science and Leadership Professor LTC Donald J. Harris at Georgia State University, who delivered the Oath of Office at the virtual ceremony, and the U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Vincent E. Buggs, who delivered a virtual commissioning address.
