During the course of a year, approximately one-third of the College's Ph.D. students teach one or more course sections as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs). These awards are given to recognize those GTAs with outstanding teaching records and performance in the classroom during the preceding calendar year.

Georgia State University Student Participates in the Georgia Legislative Internship Program

Georgia State University student Christopher Ridgeway interned at the state capitol under the Georgia Legislative Internship Program. Ridgeway, of LaGrange, is a political science major in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Georgia Legislative Internship Program assigns students to various House and Senate committees. Interns learn about the legislative process firsthand from inside the Gold Dome. In addition, interns learn more about how constituents are served and acquire marketable skills and professional work experience before graduation. "Each day is different and there is always something to do," said Ridgeway. "It truly is a learning experience and can change the way you view politics as a young adult." Ridgeway was assigned to House Media Services where his duties included preparing for committee hearings and press conferences and handling administrative tasks.

Georgia State University Student Interns at State Capital

Georgia State University student Shaista Niazi interned at the state capitol under the Georgia Legislative Internship Program. Niazi, of Sugar Hill, is a political science major in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Georgia Legislative Internship Program assigns students to various House and Senate committees. Interns are allowed to learn about the legislative and policy process firsthand from inside the Gold Dome. In addition to gaining an inside view of the legislative process and how constituents are served, interns acquire marketable skills and professional work experience before graduation. Niazi said her goal was "to gain new knowledge and a different perspective in politics" through the program. Niazi was assigned to the State Institutions and Property Committee. Many of her duties included retrieving bills and resolutions, assisting with weekly newsletters, creating flyers, attending committee meetings, and helping to set up for events.

Dean's List - Fall 2019

To be eligible for the Dean's List, degree-seeking students must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 for a minimum of nine semester hours of academic credit taken at Georgia State during the fall or spring term with no incompletes for the semester. Eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for all classes taken at Georgia State.

Georgia State University's Julia Watzek is the lead author of a research paper published in the journal Scientific Reports. Watzek, of Atlanta, is a Ph.D. candidate in psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. Watzek holds a master's degree in Psychology from Georgia State University. Watzek's research is titled "Capuchin and rhesus monkeys but not humans show cognitive flexibility in an optional-switch task."

Zera-Allen Scholarship

The Zera-Allen Scholarships Endowment was originally established in 1998 by Angela Z. and Samuel E. Allen. In 2012, the fund was split equally to provide current student support through two scholarships, the Zera-Allen Scholarship, and the Zera-Allen Global Partners MBA Scholarship. The Global Partners MBA recipients must be in good academic standing in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, or have applied to the MBA Program and demonstrated a potential for academic success.

William C. Cotterman Outstanding Student Award

Each year, the Department of Computer Information Systems honors the graduate student in the Master of Science in Information Systems program with the most outstanding academic record. The award is named for William C. Cotterman, the first chairman of the CIS department at Georgia State University. Winners receive a cash award, and their names are engraved on a plaque that hangs in the CIS department lobby.
