Georgia State University student Madison Shaw is interning with the Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP), which offers students the opportunity to intern full-time for Georgia legislators, committees, and staff. Shaw, of Canton, is a junior majoring in Political Science major at the College of Arts and Sciences. Shaw is interning in the Clerk's office where her duties include copying and distributing bills and resolutions and assisting legislators with administrative tasks. While interning at the Georgia Senate, Shaw has gotten to know legislators and lobbyists and become more familiar with government and legal affairs. She plans to use this experience as she prepares for a future career in civil law. Georgia State University Student Wins Emmy Award for Environmental Documentary
Georgia State University student Riuki Gakio has been awarded an Emmy for his environmental documentary titled "Our Plastic World," which focused on the destructive impact of plastic pollution on the environment. Gakio, of Atlanta, is a Film and Media major at Georgia State University. "Our Plastic World" won the 2020 Southeast Emmy in the category of Best Documentary - Health/Science - Program Feature/Segment. The documentary had previously received two silver and three bronze awards in the 41st annual International Telly Awards. Gakio, who wrote and produced the documentary, worked alongside executive producer, professor and managing director of GSUTV Bob Judson, co-writers Anh Tu Dao and Bill Chapman, associate producers Christopher Kurian and Kofi Stiles, editor Ben Whisenhunt, narrator Brenda Bush and Georgia Public Broadcasting to complete the film. As Georgia State's media station, GSUTV provides students with training for creating broadcast content and airs special programs throughout Georgia and to a national network of PBS stations via cable, satellite, and digital platforms.

Georgia State University ROTC Cadet Receives Military Commission
Georgia State University student Marques Powell received his commission in the Transportation Corp of the U.S. Army Reserve on December 18, following a 45-day evaluation course at Fort Knox, KY. Powell, of Conyers, GA, is an ROTC cadet majoring in speech. His commission as 2nd Lieutenant was celebrated by the Department Chair of Military Science and Leadership Professor LTC Donald J. Harris at Georgia State University, who delivered the Oath of Office at the virtual ceremony, and the U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Vincent E. Buggs, who delivered a virtual commissioning address.
