Georgia State University student Madison Shaw is interning with the Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP), which offers students the opportunity to intern full-time for Georgia legislators, committees, and staff. Shaw, of Canton, is a junior majoring in Political Science major at the College of Arts and Sciences. Shaw is interning in the Clerk's office where her duties include copying and distributing bills and resolutions and assisting legislators with administrative tasks. While interning at the Georgia Senate, Shaw has gotten to know legislators and lobbyists and become more familiar with government and legal affairs. She plans to use this experience as she prepares for a future career in civil law. Georgia State University student Jordan Savage is interning with the Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP). This program offers students the opportunity to intern full-time for Georgia legislators, committees, and staff. Savage, of Covington, is a Political Science major at The College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University. Savage has been assigned to the Office of Legislative Counsel where her duties include preparing resolutions. Savage plans to attend law school with the goal of becoming a civil rights attorney or politician to help better the lives of others. Lopez graduated from Georgia State in Spring 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Lopez has been assigned to the Senate Education and Youth Committee where her duties include creating agenda notices, meeting minutes and updates of bill summaries. Lopez plans to work for an organization that represents, protects and fights for human rights. Georgia State University student Brielle James has published a paper assessing preschool children's metacognition through their confidence movements. James, of Bolingbrook, IL, is a Psychology major graduate student in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. "Go if you know: Preschool children's movements reflect their metacognitive monitoring" examined the metacognitive responses of children aged 3 to 5 to computerized tasks and was published in ScienceDirect. Georgia State University student Ifrah Sheikh has been awarded the Bailey M. Wade Scholarship for her excellence in coursework, research and scholarship, and departmental service. Sheikh, of Atlanta, is a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. The Bailey M. Wade Scholarship is granted to graduate students who demonstrate need, merit, and career goals that reflect those of Dr. Bailey M. Wade. Bailey M. Georgia State University student Martha Ishiekwene has been awarded the Doctoral Fellowship in Trauma Intervention. Ishiekwene, of Lagos, TX, is a Psychology Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. The Doctoral Fellowship in Trauma Intervention is awarded to Psychology students whose studies focus on providing specialized assistance to people who have experienced a traumatic event such as physical and/or sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, terrorism, or war. Georgia State University student Riuki Gakio has been awarded an Emmy for his environmental documentary titled "Our Plastic World," which focused on the destructive impact of plastic pollution on the environment. Gakio, of Atlanta, is a Film and Media major at Georgia State University. "Our Plastic World" won the 2020 Southeast Emmy in the category of Best Documentary - Health/Science - Program Feature/Segment. The documentary had previously received two silver and three bronze awards in the 41st annual International Telly Awards. Gakio, who wrote and produced the documentary, worked alongside executive producer, professor and managing director of GSUTV Bob Judson, co-writers Anh Tu Dao and Bill Chapman, associate producers Christopher Kurian and Kofi Stiles, editor Ben Whisenhunt, narrator Brenda Bush and Georgia Public Broadcasting to complete the film. As Georgia State's media station, GSUTV provides students with training for creating broadcast content and airs special programs throughout Georgia and to a national network of PBS stations via cable, satellite, and digital platforms.

Georgia State University student Marques Powell received his commission in the Transportation Corp of the U.S. Army Reserve on December 18, following a 45-day evaluation course at Fort Knox, KY. Powell, of Conyers, GA, is an ROTC cadet majoring in speech. His commission as 2nd Lieutenant was celebrated by the Department Chair of Military Science and Leadership Professor LTC Donald J. Harris at Georgia State University, who delivered the Oath of Office at the virtual ceremony, and the U.S. Army Reserve Brigadier General Vincent E. Buggs, who delivered a virtual commissioning address.

The Honors Thesis Pitch is a semesterly contest, challenging undergraduate students to articulate their research projects in a compelling and engaging way in just three minutes or less. The competition is hosted each semester by the Honors College at Georgia State and is co-sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Students and Alumni (CASA). While usually a live competition, this semester's Thesis Pitch occurred as a virtual event because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine students recorded and uploaded their timed presentation to a video sharing platform, where a panel of expert judges evaluated them.

Georgia State University student Christopher Porzenheim presented a paper on the topic of "Emerson and Resistance" at an American Library Association (ALA) conference recently. Porzenheim, of Clarkston, is a student in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. The panel was sponsored by the Ralph Waldo Emerson Society, where Porzenheim's paper argued that Emerson was a virtue ethicist. Georgia State University student Maximiliana Rifkin has been invited to present at the annual Positive Psychology conference in New York City in Spring 2021. Rifkin, of Fairport, NY, is a student in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. Rifkin plans to give a talk on how to use our emotions more effectively as guides in action. Georgia State University student Gus Turyn has had several papers accepted for presentation at academic conferences. Turyn, of New York, NY, is a student in the Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. One of Turyn's papers titled "Masks, Finks, and Gender Internalism" has been accepted for the 2021 Central meeting of the American Philosophical Association, as well as the 2020 University of Texas Austin Graduate Ethics and Normativity Talks (AGENT) conference. Another paper, "The Need for Epistemic First-Person Authority," was accepted for presentation at the 2021 Pacific meeting of the American Philosophical Association and a 2020 Manchester Centre for Political Theory (MANCEPT) workshop on the topic of "What is gender and what do we want it to be?"
