Georgia State University

This award, established in memory of James Ancil Lewis, honors his exemplary work in respiratory therapy: from his graduation in 1973 until his death in 1992. This award is given to a junior(s) in the program who exemplifies Mr. Lewis' characteristics of service to others, particularly in clinical work and direct patient care.

This award recognizes the students who have made an outstanding contribution to the research efforts of the Department of Physical Therapy and who exhibit potential of becoming significant contributors to the field of physical therapy research.

The Graduate Nursing Student Service Award recognizes a student for outstanding service as the student representative to the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

Georgia State University student Sakinah Muhammed-Worsham recently received the Drs. Kennedy and Nettey Premedical Award. Muhammed-Worsham, of Peachtree City, is a Bachelor's student in Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences. This award was established to alleviate financial barriers for students at Georgia State University applying to medical school programs by assisting with funding for admissions test preparation materials. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

The Occupational Therapy Research Excellence Award goes to the student(s) who makes (made) outstanding contribution to the research efforts of the department and exhibit potential to become a significant contributor in the field of occupational therapy research.

The Occupational Therapy Academic Excellence Award is given to a graduating second year student with a GPA of 4.0 in the occupational therapy program who also exhibits overall academic excellence.

Georgia State University student Claude-Henry Pierre recently received the World Languages and Cultures Student of the Year award. Pierre, of Auburn, Ga., is a Bachelor's student in World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

The Sara M. Hunt Clinical Excellence Award is given to a Coordinated Program student who has displayed outstanding performance in the clinical setting.

The Johnnie W. Prothro Academic Excellence Award is given to an undergraduate student in the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions who has achieved a high level of academic excellence in the nutrition program.

Georgia State University recognizes one outstanding nutrition Coordinated Program student each year. Criteria for the award include academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and potential as a future dietetics professional.

Georgia State University student Yoon Namkung recently received a travel grant to present research at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL). Namkung, of Seoul, South Korea, is a Ph.D. student in Applied Linguistics & ESL at the College of Arts and Sciences. Yoon will be presenting with Professor Ute Roemer on their work titled "L2 learners' use of phrase-frames across proficiency levels: Comparing written and oral production." Her travel grant is from Comite International Permanent des Linguistes/Permanent International Committee of Linguists. The AAAL 2023 Conference is a research conference known for its comprehensive linguistic research. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State University student Sam Sabin Watts recently received the Walter F. Daves Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award.This award is made annually to a graduate student who has been an outstanding instructor in the Department of Psychology.

Georgia State University student Bella Palumbo has received the Bailey M. Wade Memorial Scholarship. The Bailey M. Wade Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of the department's first chair and honors students who demonstrate need as well as the goals and values demonstrated by Professor Wade.

Georgia State University student Ifrah Sheikh recently received the John Warkentin Memorial Award. The John Warkentin Memorial Award is presented annually to Georgia State clinical psychology graduate students who show outstanding potential in psychotherapy.

Georgia State University student Abigail "Abby" Robbertz recently received the Richard Morrell Outstanding Graduate Student Award. This award is made annually to an outstanding graduate student in the Department of Psychology or a student who has earned the Ph.D. within the year.
