Each year, the Computer Information Systems Department honors the graduate student in the MS-CIS program with the most outstanding academic record. The award is named for William C. Cotterman, the first chairman of the CIS Department at Georgia State University.

This award is presented to students who graduate with both a 3.5 overall grade point average and a 3.67 GPA in all nursing classes.
