The Al Baumstark Award in Chemistry was established by the faculty and alumni of the Chemistry Department and is an endowed fund in honor of organic chemistry Professor Al Baumstark. The Al Baumstark Award in Chemistry supports students pursuing doctoral degrees in chemistry and is inspired by Baumstark's commitment to increasing student diversity in science.

The Timothy Jon Bartness Memorial Award was established in memory of Dr. Timothy Jon Bartness (1953-2015) who joined the Biology faculty in 1988. Dr. Bartness was a Regents' Professor and founding director of the Center for Obesity Reversal. He was internationally celebrated for his research on obesity and metabolic physiology in addition to mentoring young scientists.

Clifvette Webb was selected as the 2018 recipient of the Georgia State Philosophy Department Arlene & Alvin Altman Endowment in Philosophy.

Matthew Delhey successfully defended his thesis to earn a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy in the fall of 2018. His thesis was titled "Machine Automation and the Critique of Abstract Labor in Hegel's Mature Social Theory." Delhey's thesis committee members were Dr. Sebastian Rand, Dr. Peter Lindsay, and Dr. Calvin Thomas. Delhey is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Toronto.

Georgia State Univesity College of Law recognized students with a 3.6 grade point average or higher during the Commencement and Hooding ceremony held on May 11, 2018.

This award is given to an undergraduate major on the basis of overall academic excellence in philosophy based on program GPA, overall GPA, undergraduate research projects, B.A. thesis work, and participation in academically-oriented departmental activities.

Georgia State Masters Student Paul Fryfogle successfully defended his Philosophy MA thesis, "The Fragility of Convergence: Public Reason, Political Liberalism and Stability" Paul's committee members were Dr. Christie Hartley, Dr. Andrew Jason Cohen, and Dr. Bill Edmundson.
