Three Minute Thesis Doctoral Competition
Astronomy Ph.D. student Beena Meena has won the first place in the Georgia State University Doctoral Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. It is a research communication competition which helps to develop academic, presentation and research communication skills. It supports the development of students' capacities to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. Graduate students have three minutes to present compelling orations on their thesis or dissertation topics and their significance. Meena won the top award for her video description of her doctoral dissertation: "Role of Supermassive Black Holes Winds in Galaxy Evolution."

International Graduate Student of the Year
Udagamage Kushan Wijewardena, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University, was named International Graduate Student of the Year. Since 2012, the International Education Awards have recognized outstanding faculty, staff and students for their commitment to international education. Awards are given during the annual International Honorary Reception during International Education Week in November. In 2018, the Sheth Awards were established to recognize one distinguished faculty member and one exceptional international alum for their achievements.

Global Engagement Award from the Office of International Initiatives
Kelsi Quick, an undergraduate studying political science at Georgia State University, has won two research awards at the GSU Undergraduate Research Conference (GSURC) for her paper entitled, "Double Standards? Approval Ratings of Male and Female Prime Ministers During National Security Crises." She was honored during the Spring 2020 semester by the College of Arts & Sciences for earning both awards during the 2019-20 academic year. Quick was awarded the first place Global Engagement Award from the Office of International Initiatives (OII) and second place in Social & Behavioral Sciences. The OII award is a new award that recognizes outstanding presentations on research or creative work addressing global or international issues. Ms. Quick won against 180 other student participants during the 14th annual GSURC, which took a virtual format in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research she presented is a result of two years of work under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Ryan Carlin.
