Georgia State University student Brielle James has published a paper assessing preschool children's metacognition through their confidence movements. James, of Bolingbrook, IL, is a Psychology major graduate student in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. "Go if you know: Preschool children's movements reflect their metacognitive monitoring" examined the metacognitive responses of children aged 3 to 5 to computerized tasks and was published in ScienceDirect. The College of Arts & Sciences provides a skills-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State University student Martha Ishiekwene has been awarded the Doctoral Fellowship in Trauma Intervention. Ishiekwene, of Lagos, TX, is a Psychology Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University. The Doctoral Fellowship in Trauma Intervention is awarded to Psychology students whose studies focus on providing specialized assistance to people who have experienced a traumatic event such as physical and/or sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, terrorism, or war. The College of Arts & Sciences provides a skills-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State Graduate to Pursue International Affairs as 2021 Rangel Fellow

The Honors College at Georgia State is proud to announce the winners of its Fall 2020 Thesis Pitch Competition. The Honors Thesis Pitch is a semesterly contest, challenging undergraduate students to articulate their research projects in a compelling and engaging way in just three minutes or less. The competition is hosted each semester by the Honors College at Georgia State and is co-sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Students and Alumni (CASA). While usually a live competition, this semester's Thesis Pitch occurred as a virtual event because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nine students recorded and uploaded their timed presentation to a video sharing platform, where a panel of expert judges evaluated them.

Ayse Lokmanoglu, a Ph.D.candidate in the Department of Communication at Georgia State University, publiished a research article in the journal Studies in Conflict and Terrorism. The name of the article is "Coin as Imagined Sovereignty: A Rhetorical Analysis of Coins as a Transhistorical Artifact and an Ideograph in Islamic State's Communication."

Shivaanii Uma, an undergraduate majoring in neuroscience, published a reasearch article in the sceintific journal Science Advances. The article examines the ability of some hummingbirds to produce unique high-frequency vocalizations.

Sean Zigah, a master's student studying geosciences at Georgia State University, was awarded a competitive $1,000 travel grant from the The Clay Minerals Society to present his research at their October meeting taking place at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).

Faisal Adams, a master's student majoring in geosciences at Georgia State University, will start his Ph.D. program in Geochemistry at Virginia Tech this fall. Faisal accepted the prestigious "Interdisciplinary Graduate Education Program" fellowship from Virginia Tech Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology.

Lindsey Baker, a graduate student studying English at Georgia State University, won the Paul Bowles Graduate Student Fellowship in Fiction Writing. The award, presented in honor of the novelist, composer, and translator Paul Bowles, is presented by the English Department to acknowledge outstanding work by an M.F.A or Ph.D. student specializing in fiction writing.

Wanjiku Ngugi, a graduate student studying English at Georgia State University, won the Virginia Spencer Carr Graduate Fellowship in Prose Writing. The award is named in honor of the great literary biographer and professor Virginia Spencer Carr.

Noah Britton, an undergraduate student studying journalism at Georgia State University, was selected as an alternate for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The Fulbright Student Fellowship provides students with the opportunity to live and work abroad. To be competitive for the fellowship, candidates must have an excellent academic background, demonstrate leadership in their respective fields and be willing to serve as ambassadors during this cultural exchange.
