This award is given to an undergraduate student or students with outstanding academic performance, demonstrated leadership and potential as a future dietetics professional.

The Johnnie W. Prothro Academic Excellence Award is given to an undergraduate student in the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions who has achieved a high level of academic excellence in the nutrition program.

Georgia State University student Jonathan Nguyen has been awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. The Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award in Computer Science is awarded each spring to the most outstanding undergraduate and graduate Computer Science students.

Georgia State University student Parker Ellingson has received the Neuroscience Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award. Ellingson, of Longwood, Fla., is a neuroscience Ph.D. student in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Neuroscience Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor Award recognizes graduate neuroscience students who display dedication to mentoring and excel as a mentor to others. Georgia State University Student Melanie Knezevic has been awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Applied Linguistics. Knezevic, of Atlanta, is an Applied Linguistics master's degree student in the College of Arts & Sciences. Knezevic has worked as a graduate research assistant in Georgia State's McCarthy Lab which conducts research that investigates how people learn from what they read. Georgia State University student Samuel Pittman has received the George W. Beiswanger Endowed Award. Pittman, of Atlanta, is a senior majoring in Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. The award goes to an undergraduate major on the basis of overall academic excellence, including: program grade-point average, overall grade-point average, undergraduate research projects, B.A. thesis work, and participation in academically-oriented departmental activities. The award was endowed by philosophy alumna Kay Craigie in honor of Beiswanger, who was Professor of Philosophy at Georgia State from 1963 to 1970. Georgia State University student Kinsey Williams has received the Kay C. Craigie Philosophy Student Support Fund. Williams, of Mableton, is majoring in Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences. The scholarship is awarded to academically successful philosophy majors who face financial barriers to realizing their dreams. The award was created with the generous support of philosophy alumna Kay Craigie. Georgia State University student Keith Rogers has received the Borden D. Dent Excellence in Cartography Award. Rogers, of Riverdale, is a senior majoring in Geosciences in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Borden D. Dent Excellence in Cartography award recognizes students' accomplishments in Cartography and is named in memory of Dr. Dent, a Georgia State professor emeritus and former chairman of the Department of Geography and Anthropology. Nu Rho Psi, the national neuroscience honor society, awarded a Georgia State University Honors College student with an Undergraduate Research Grant.

Astronomy Ph.D. student Beena Meena has won the first place in the Georgia State University Doctoral Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. It is a research communication competition which helps to develop academic, presentation and research communication skills. It supports the development of students' capacities to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. Graduate students have three minutes to present compelling orations on their thesis or dissertation topics and their significance. Meena won the top award for her video description of her doctoral dissertation: "Role of Supermassive Black Holes Winds in Galaxy Evolution."

Sarah Bramblett, an English Rhetoric & Composition Ph.D. student at Georgia State University, placed second in the Three Minute Thesis doctoral competition. Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition which helps to develop academic, presentation and research communication skills. It supports the development of students' capacities to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.

Udagamage Kushan Wijewardena, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University, was named International Graduate Student of the Year. Since 2012, the International Education Awards have recognized outstanding faculty, staff and students for their commitment to international education. Awards are given during the annual International Honorary Reception during International Education Week in November. In 2018, the Sheth Awards were established to recognize one distinguished faculty member and one exceptional international alum for their achievements.

English Department doctoral graduate Alan Swirsky was awarded the 2019-2020 Graduate Writing Award by the department. Each year, English Department faculty serving on the Awards Committee conduct a blind review of top essays, nominated by department instructors and professors, from courses at all levels.

Carlye Anne Schock, an doctoral student studying English at Georgia State University, was awarded the Wade Family Endowment. The endowment was established in honor of alums Rodney D. Wade (B.A. in English Literature) and Randy A. Wade (B.A. in Political Science), to provide support for students in the departments of English and Political Science.

Evan Fullerton, a doctoral student studying neuroscience at Georgia State University, has received a 2019-2020 Molecular Basis of Disease (MBD) Outstanding Fellow Award. This award is accorded on the basis of outstanding contributions to research, future promise as a researcher, and originality, imagination and significance of research.

The Laurie House Hopkins Scholarship in Global Studies was established by Georgia State alumna Laurie Eileen House to provide undergraduate scholarships to students in the Global Studies Institute of the College of Arts & Sciences.
