Georgia State Ph.D. Student Jina Yu Receives Award for Poster Presented During Conference
Georgia State University student Jina Yu recently received an academic award for her poster presentation for Georgia State's Scientific Computing Day. Yu, of Jonesboro, is a Ph.D. student in Chemistry in Professor Ivaylo Ivanov's lab in the College of Arts and Sciences. Yu's poster was titled "Dynamic conformational switching underlies TFIIH function in transcription and DNA repair and impacts genetic diseases." Georgia State's Scientific Computing Day is a symposium fostering networking and collaborations among researchers at the university and its affiliates. The College of Arts and Sciences provides a skill-based liberal arts and sciences education for Atlanta's diverse, next-generation workforce.

Georgia State University student Patrick Walsh-King has received the George W. Beiswanger Award. This endowed award goes to an undergraduate major on the basis of overall academic excellence, including GPA, undergraduate research projects, B.A. thesis work, and participation in academically oriented departmental activities. The award was endowed by philosophy alum Kay Craigie in honor of Beiswanger, who was a Professor of Philosophy at Georgia State from 1963 to 1970.

Ari Fodeman Earns Percival Rogers Statistics Award
Georgia State University graduate Ari Fodeman has received the Percival Rogers Statistics Award. This award is given annually to a graduate student who has shown outstanding development and ability in the use of statistics in psychology. It is named for Percival Rogers Bakeman (1882-1932), who was regarded as something of a polymath. He was a professor at Shanghai College, where he distinguished himself as the only American to lecture routinely in Chinese.

Aisha Walker Earns John Warkentin Memorial Award
Georgia State University student Aisha Walker has received the John Warkentin Memorial Award. This award is made annually to a graduate student showing outstanding potential in psychotherapy as well as financial need. John Warkentin was a psychiatrist in Atlanta who died in 1983. Dr. Warkentin and his wife, who was a clinical psychologist, were strong supporters of the psychotherapy program in the 1970s.
