Talitha Hanks, a sophomore studying sociology at Georgia State University, is one of around 400 American undergraduate students from across the U.S. selected to receive the prestigious Freeman Award for Study in Asia Scholarship (Freeman-ASIA).

Given to a graduate student preparing for a career as a mathematics teacher in the Master of Education in Mathematics Education degree program. The recipient will receive a $750 scholarship.

Established by Dr. Jerry Robbins, former dean of the college, to honor students majoring and excelling in mathematics with a focus in teacher preparation. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Given to an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in mathematics education who is demonstrating academic excellence. The recipient will receive a $1,000 cash award.

Established by College of Education alumni Dr. Melvin Hayden and Dr. Lucy Welzant Hayden to honor their parents. This $1,000 award is presented to a doctoral student or graduate whose dissertation exhibits originality, clarity and effectiveness in the presentation of ideas, quality writing and contributes to the future scholarly productivity of his or her field.

Given to an undergraduate student of academic distinction who shows potential through research, community involvement and leadership by making significant contributions within the fields of human learning and development.

Established by Dr. Ron Colarusso, former dean of the college, to recognize a doctoral student with an extraordinary dissertation prospectus in the area of urban education. The recipient will receive a $1,000 award.

Established by Bradford and Patricia Ferrer, this scholarship honors an undergraduate student in good standing in the College of Education & Human Development. The recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Established by Bradford and Patricia Ferrer to honor a student majoring and excelling in middle childhood education, with a focus on teacher preparation. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Awarded to help support women pursuing a degree in teacher preparation and who have the challenge of raising a family while furthering their education. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) is awarded to around 400 American undergraduate students from across the U.S. for study in Asia. It may be used to cover the costs of study abroad programs and related expenses including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books and more.

Established by Dr. Beverly J. Armento to honor doctoral students who have a commitment to improving pedagogy in teaching and teacher education. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 cash award.

Presented to a student in the exercise science program in the Department of Kinesiology and Health. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Presented to an active graduate student in sports administration. As the former Marketing Services Director for the Atlanta Braves and faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and Health, Huggins dedicated herself to and attained a high level of integrity and personal ethics. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Presented to a student enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology and Health who is involved with disability sport organizations in Atlanta. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

In recognition of an outstanding student who best demonstrates the potential for excellence in teaching and who exemplifies those characteristics which Dr. Blaney valued so highly. The recipient of this award will receive a $500 scholarship.

Given to a student who wants to be a principal and is pursuing a graduate degree in educational leadership. The recipient will receive a $750 award.

Presented to a student majoring in special education in the Department of Educational Psychology, Special Education, and Communication Disorders. The recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Given to a student in special education for genuine caring and involvement with individuals with an intellectual disability that demonstrates an exceptional level of commitment. The recipient of this award will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The JoAnna F. White Play Therapy Scholarship is presented to a graduate student in good standing in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services who is dedicated to the study and clinical practice of play therapy. The recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship.

The Chet W. Harris Scholarship to awarded to doctoral students in recognition of teaching, mentoring and modeling with care and compassion. The recipients of this award receive an $800 scholarship.

The Kenneth and Mary Matheny Scholarship is given in recognition of outstanding accomplishments in counseling and psychological services. The recipients received $3,500 and $4,500 scholarships, respectively.

The Karen Lopp Memorial Scholarship is given in recognition of a commitment to multicultural issues and social injustice through advocacy and service. The recipient will receive a $500 scholarship.

This scholarship honors Dr. J. Rhodes Haverty, founding dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences, a precursor to the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions at Georgia State University. This award recognizes student(s), from any Lewis School major, who demonstrate academic excellence and a career interest in an area of children's health.

This scholarship was established in memory of Daniel Sansone, son of Joseph Sansone, founder and CEO of Pediatria Healthcare, LLC and former Lewis School advisory board member. The Daniel J. Sansone Scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student interested in pediatric nursing or respiratory therapy.

This award was established in memory of Merle Lott, who was Director of Nursing for the DeKalb County Health Department and a dedicated public health nurse in Georgia for over 30 years. It recognizes students who have demonstrated academic excellence and plan to pursue a career in public health nursing.

This award was established to honor Mrs. Byrdine F. Lewis for whom the Georgia State University School of Nursing was named in 2003. Throughout her nursing career, Mrs. Lewis exemplified a dedication to clinical practice and quality patient care. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate nursing students who have a strong academic record and who are committed to clinical practice in a hospital setting.

This scholarship was established to benefit graduate students who are interested in pursuing a career as a nurse educator.
