Laura Nguyen, a Georgia State University School of Public Health graduate student from Rex, has been awarded the Judith Ottoson Scholarship.

Nguyen is a second-year Master of Public Health student in epidemiology and is interested in pursuing a career in program evaluation in the international and humanitarian response sector.

During her internship with the CDC Foundation, she worked on launching its CDC Foundation Ambassador Network.

The Ottoson scholarship is awarded to public health graduate students who have an interest in program evaluation and a desire to understand how programs make a difference. Eligible students must have at least a 3.5 grade point average. Whenever possible, the scholarship is awarded to a student who is an immigrant or the child of an immigrant. Nguyen's parents immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam as war refugees in the 1970s.

The scholarship is a one-time award of $500.
