Rajendra Awarded Pro Bono Honors With Distinction

2016 Oct 18

Yathurshi Rajendra, of Alpharetta, was recognized recently by Georgia State University's College of Law for serving unmet legal needs through pro bono legal services, and was awarded pro bono honors with distinction.

Georgia State Law students have a range of pro bono activities from which to choose. Pro bono service gives students the chance to become involved in addressing unmet legal needs while gaining valuable experience. Georgia State Law encourages student involvement through the Pro Bono Recognition Program.

Pro bono activities include not only those that ensure adequate legal services for moderate- and low-income individuals, but also efforts that enhance the capacity of law and legal institutions to do justice. Activities in the local community that promote justice are also recognized.

The College of Law encourages students to support and participate in pro bono service - one of the legal profession's fundamental values - and conduct themselves in accordance with the highest values and standards of the vocation.

Recognizing students/pro bono participation

Students who complete 50 hours or more of pro bono service during law school will graduate with "pro bono distinction."

There are three levels of recognition:

  • With distinction is awarded to students who perform 50-99 hours of pro bono service.
  • With high distinction is awarded to students who do 100-149 hours of pro bono service.
  • With highest distinction is awarded to students who complete 150 or more hours of pro bono service.
