PhD Student Ashwini Tiwari Successfully Defends Dissertation

2016 May 16

Ashwini Tiwari, PhD student at the School of Public Health at Georgia State, successfully defended her dissertation on parenting practices and child maltreatment.

Tiwari of Scarborough presented her dissertation titled "Effects of an Evidence-Based Parenting Program on Physiological Markers of Stress among at-risk Parents for Child Maltreatment."

Tiwari's research explored biomarkers as benchmarks of parental stress. Tiwari said that relying on parents to self report their stress is often not acccurate, but researching these biomarkers provides more solid evidence of stress.

Tiwari will now be pursuing her postdoctoral fellowship at the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University.
