Michael Carter Wins In Clayton State Personal Elevator Pitch Competition

2017 Jan 17

Georgia State University's Michael Carter, of Stone Mountain, excelled in the Clayton State University Personal Elevator Pitch Competition this fall, where they put together 90-second elevator pitches to communicate their ideas to potential employers.

Carter, a student of the university's Entrepreneurship & Innovation Institute (ENI) , finished in the top four, demonstrating their talents before the event, hosted by Clayton State's College of Business. They faced a field of 40 students in total.

The personal elevator pitch is a brief explanation of how you can benefit the potential employer, why you should be hired or considered further by persuasively explaining your unique traits, experiences, skills, and accomplishments that are important to the employer.

It is typically given to someone that you unexpectedly meet in an elevator, at a party, or any short interaction.

Psychology major Robert Hatcher led the way earning first place and a $500 prize. Michael Carter, a graduate student studying instructional design and technology, finished second and netted $250. Managerial sciences major Adesuwa Imafidon earned $100 for her fourth-place finish. The event took place in November at the Harry S. Downs Center on the Clayton State University campus in Morrow.
