McDonald awarded Doctoral Research and Practice Award

2015 Aug 17

Christen McDonald of Griffin (30223) was awarded the Doctoral Research and Practice Award from the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (AARC).

The award is given annually to a doctoral student for contributing "significant levels of service and/or scholarly engagement consistent with the rendering of exemplary assessment or research practices," according to the association's website.

McDonald, a student in the College of Education and Human Development's Counselor Education and Practice program, focuses her research on multicultural advocacy, social justice, professional identity and advocacy.

As an award recipient, she will be recognized at the association's annual conference, be highlighted on its website and will receive a one-year AARC membership.

"I think this award definitely provides me with an opportunity to continue to meet and network with other professionals and students," McDonald said. "Also, I think it helps perpetuate the idea that multiculturalism should continue to be researched and that race is not a concept that has or can be mastered, but should be an evolving dialogue."
