Marilia Alves Nobrega Alberto Dantas Wins in University of Tennessee VolHacks Competition

2017 Jan 9

Marilia Alves Nobrega Alberto Dantas, of Brasilia, a student of Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business, was part of a team that won in the University of Tennessee's VolHacks hackathon competition.

VolHacks is a 36-hour, caffeine-fueled competition in which Alves Nobrega Alberto Dantas and her colleagues brainstormed, built, tested and deployed their student-driven innovation with the help of professional mentors.

The team, comprised of students from Georgia State's Master of Science in Analytics program, took first place in the competition, and also won an award for the best use of the Application Programming Interface (API) of EventBrite, a large database of events, such as concerts and festivals.

Their creation, "eventgetLIT," lets users of Alexa, the voice-operated personal assistant of the Amazon Echo device, find events in the EventBrite system by using voice commands.

The full team roster includes Jennifer Boudreau, Yi-Hsuan "Lisa" Su and Marilia "Mia" Dantas.
