2017 Feb 22

Lauren Booker, of Pooler, won the College Journalist of the Year Award at the Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC), held during February at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.

Booker is the online editor for The Signal, the student newspaper for Georgia State University in Atlanta.

The College Journalist of the Year Award is judged based on the submission of a resume, letters of recommendation, work samples and a personal essay addressing committment and responsibility in journalism.

Additionally, Booker excelled in the conference's onsite journalism competition, garnering first place in the feature writing category. In the team championship, The Signal placed first, beating out college newspaper teams from across the Southeastern United States.

The SEJC is composed of more than 45 member colleges and universities across the Southeast, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
