Jamal Jones Chosen As Finalist For the Three Minute Thesis Competition

2017 Mar 8

Jamal Jones of Miami, a Ph.D. student at the Georgia State University School of Public Health, is a finalist for the Three Minute Thesis Competition.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland in Australia in 2008. The premise of the competition is to develop academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

Graduate students have three minutes to present compelling orations on their thesis or dissertation topics and their significance. 3MT is not an exercise in "watering down" research but forces students to consolidate their ideas and concisely explain their research discoveries.

Jones presented a thesis on the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in relation to young black men and their risk. Jones' dissertation focused on evaluating if social media marketing intervention would increase testing among young black men with the goal of determining a cost-effective strategy to use on college campuses to reduce new HIV cases among this demographic.
