Halle Neeley Named Inaugural Recipient of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hospitality Scholarship

2017 May 2

Halle Neeley of Atlanta, a Georgia State University senior in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hospitality Scholarship on May 2, 2017.

Neeley, who is working toward a bachelor's degree in Hospitality Administration, was honored at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel's 50th anniversary celebration.

"I'm honored to be selected as the first recipient of this scholarship," Neeley said. "The scholarship will help me complete my degree and start my career in hospitality. I'm so grateful to everyone at Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Hyatt and Georgia State University."

The annual scholarship has been established through a collaboration between the hotel and the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration in Georgia State's Robinson College of Business.

Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt Hotels Foundation are each contributing to a $100,000 endowment, which is designed to fund the scholarship in perpetuity. The School of Hospitality Administration will select recipients each year based on academic achievement and other criteria.

"We are honored to partner with Georgia State University to create this enduring gift for Halle and future young leaders in our community," said Peter McMahon, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Atlanta. "Hyatt's purpose is to care for people so they can be their best, which means caring for our colleagues, guests and communities. This gift is an extension of that commitment. An investment in our community's future is the best way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hyatt Regency Atlanta."

"Georgia State is enormously grateful for this generous gift from our friends and neighbors at Hyatt," said Richard Phillips, dean of Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business. "This scholarship will allow promising students to achieve their educational goals and help develop new leaders in our community and the hospitality industry for years to come."

Opened in 1967 and designed by renowned architect John C. Portman Jr., Hyatt Regency Atlanta is an architectural icon and one of America's great hotels. The property has a rich history and was among the first hotels in Atlanta to open its doors to the civil rights movement, a tradition of inclusion and openness it still celebrates today.
