Georgia State MFA Candidate Elham Masoudi of Tehran, is featured in Focus Iran 2: Contemporary Photography and Video Biennial

2017 Jan 31

Congratulations to Georgia State University MFA candidate Elham Masoudi who is included in the "Focus Iran 2: Contemporary Photography and Video" biennial at The Craft & Folk Art Museum (CAFAM). The second biennial juried exhibition is co-presented by the Farhang Foundation and opens on January 29. Masoudi, who hails from Tehran, joins a roster of international emerging and mid-career artists that offer diverse perspectives of contemporary Iranian life.

For the biennial, Masoudi presents photography from her "Protest Dance" series - a combination of two sections; the movement of feet as a symbol of dance, and the movement of head and hands as a symbol of protest. Masoudi is currently a graduating 3rd year MFA candidate from the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State.

The international jury panel selected artists residing in countries such as Iran, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Focus Iran 2 democratizes the art form of image making by giving novices and professionals an equal opportunity to offer distinctive visions of Iran from both inside and outside the country. Offering a unique point of access and convergence, this juried Focus Iran 2 provides a rare collection of perspectives from citizen journalists, personal archivists, and vernacular storytellers who are connected to Iran either by heritage or deeply felt admiration.

The group exhibition of thirty-six photographs and eight video works takes place at CAFAM from January 29 to May 7, 2017, and will continue on to the University of California, Irvine's Viewpoint Gallery from September 16 to October 13, 2017.
