Brittani Carter Chosen As Finalist For the Three Minute Thesis Competition

2017 Mar 8

Brittani Carter, of Savannah, a graduate student at the Georgia State University School of Public Health, is a finalist for the Three Minute Thesis Competition.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland in Australia in 2008. The premise of the competition is to develop academic, presentation, and research communication skills.

Graduate students have three minutes to present compelling orations on their thesis or dissertation topics and their significance. 3MT is not an exercise in "watering down" research but forces students to consolidate their ideas and concisely explain their research discoveries.

Carter presented a thesis on smoking in relation to persons living with HIV. Carter's dissertation focused on both documenting rates of smoking and healthcare facility visitations among persons living with and without HIV as well as examining associations between healthcare visits, stressors, and smoking within those subpopulations.
