Alysiah Whittaker Named 2017 Outdoor Track and Field All-American

2017 Jun 13

Alysiah Whittaker of Dittmer, a Georgia State University track and field athlete, was named a 2017 Outdoor Track and Field All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

LaPorscha Wells and Alysiah Whittaker were selected to the second team for placing finished 9th through 16th in their respective events at the 2017 NCAA Championships during the week of June 5, 2017, in Eugene, Ore. For Wells, it's her second All-America nod of her career as she was named a 2017 Indoor All-American earlier this year.

Wells placed 13th in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.87m last on June 8 in Eugene. That toss was just short of Wells' GSU record of 65.39m. Wells finishes her GSU career as one of the most decorated athletes in school history. Earlier this year, she earned All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships to become the first female track and field All-American in school history. Arizona State's Maggie Ewen won the event with a new NCAA record of 73.32m.

Whittaker competed in the shot put later and registered a throw of 16.31m. Whittaker came up just short of her GSU record of 16.83m. Whittaker will end her GSU career as the current school record holder in both the shot put and discus.
